Counselling

Counselling is a process of addressing and working through your challenges with a professional counsellor in a positive way, by helping you to clarify issues, explore options, develop strategies and increase self-awareness.

It is a safe and confidential collaboration between qualified counsellors and clients to promote mental health and wellbeing, enhance self-understanding, and resolve identified concerns. By using empathy and deep listening, counsellors focus on ensuring that clients feel safe, understood, respected, and accepted without judgement.

Counsellors work with a range of individuals from children through to adults, families and couples. It may be short term or long term according to the needs of the client.

Counselling can be broad or focused. Clients may explore:

  • aspects of identity
  • spirituality
  • relationships with self and others
  • past experiences
  • parenting
  • grief, loss and trauma
  • domestic violence
  •  child abuse
  • use of alcohol and other substances
  • depression and anxiety, and other experiences.

Counselling can provide changes in perspective and new insights as well as help to enhance the individuals capacity to tolerate and regulate feelings, new actions or behaviours, and new decisions about life.
