Somatic Therapy
Jana Cederquist
Jana offers a brand new movement and breathwork modality blending ancient wisdom with modern science. Rooted in healing practices such as yoga, qigong, and meditation combined with somatic movement and trauma therapy, polyvagal theory, breathwork and more, this gentle yet profound practice offers a transformative experience for mind, body and spirit. Incorporating all four levels of our being – physical, emotional, mental and energetic this modality aims to promote deep healing, embodiment, nervous system regulation, mind-body connectivity and the release of trauma and stress within the body.
Each session guides the participant through breath and movement focusing on different emotions, themes, areas or nervous system responses, offering practical tools, practices and healing experiences leaving the participants with a new sense of vitality, wellbeing and self-connection.
Michael Macdermid
Michael offers both individual and group sound bath sessions centre on Himalayan singing bowls, played for their rich harmonic qualities — long, layered tones that can be experienced through the body as much as the ear. Michael also uses some very subtle melody or rhythm — it’s sound as immersion rather than music to follow.
Individual sessions run for one hour at the Northcote studio. Each begins with a short conversation, then you settle onto a comfortable massage table, lying down with eyes closed, while bowls are played around you with generous silence and space between phrases. There is no fixed sequence; the session follows breath, listening and stillness rather than a set structure.
There is nothing to achieve or perform. Some people relax deeply, while others simply notice their breathing slow or their attention becoming quieter. A few moments of silence at the end allow you to gradually reorient before leaving.
Group sound baths follow the same approach, with six to seven participants lying comfortably together on mats in the Northcode studio for a one-hour session. The shared space allows the sound to move through the room collectively, while each person experiences the meditation in their own way.
