You know that feeling of being around someone that just radiates a kind of magical sparkle? You can’t quite put your finger on it but it’s uplifting and it feels reeeeeeeally good! Cue the scene from When Harry Met Sally….
“I’ll have what she’s having.”
Your own inner sparkle is unique to you, and only you. It’s the magical part of you that makes you come alive. It feels like being in the ‘flow’ of life. Like being able to easily and freely connect with others. It feels like lightness, positivity and optimism.
However, sometimes life ‘happens’ and it can knock us down a little. Or a lot. Or it knocks us down, steps on us, rolls us over, steps on us again and runs us over for good measure.
Unfortunately it is not commonplace to be taught to connect with our individual essence. Some of us might not even know how it feels to connect to our inner sparkle, let alone how to find it.
So how DO we find it?
STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
Doing this takes us ‘out’ of ourselves instead of getting ‘into’ ourselves. Constantly comparing yourself to others is just like comparing food and water. They are both amazing and nourishing and have unique qualities and gifts that they bring. You are like that too. Concentrate on being the MOST ‘you’ you can be.
START CONNECTING WITH YOURSELF
On the daily! Explore yourself with curiosity and with deep interest. Consider it like dating yourself. The idea is to be completely present with yourself so you can hear yourself. Away from the noise of the world. Maybe it is getting up 15 minutes earlier than the rest of the house to sit in stillness with a cup of tea. Maybe it’s taking a walk to clear your mind and connect to the quiet space inside. It could even be a 5 minute dance off in the shower! You do you!
DO MORE OF WHAT LIGHTS YOU UP
How many times have you heard this? Usually on a notebook or a Monday morning Instagram post. But what does it really mean? It means take note of the things you enjoy doing. Things that are fun and make you feel light and happy. Almost as if time disappears. And then do more of it. And MORE of it. It doesn’t matter what it is. It could be trimming a bonsai, cooking a curry from scratch, drawing mythical animals, bike riding, watching short films, being part of a book club or visiting waterfalls…..JUST KEEP DOING IT!
Loving ourselves allows us to be unapologetically who we are. We are showing ourselves and others that it’s ok to truly be ourselves. And this creates an infinite well of love and kindness. For ourselves and others. The more we can love ourselves, the more we can love others. And the more that others can love themselves and they can love others. See the cycle?
Your uniqueness is your gift. And giving yourself the permission to been seen in your uniqueness and then sharing that with the world is a gift. Allow it and then let it shine. Let us all bask in your sparkle. Because it makes us feel so good too!
